Ace Attorney 5 to replace classic SFX with voices

Ace Attorney 5 controversially replaces the much loved retro sound effects of the series to date with voice acting, partly due to a platform upgrade.

In a recent interview with Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream, as reported by Siliconera, Capcom admitted that it knows getting rid of the much loved sound effects fro the first four games (and spin offs) will be controversial.

There are two reasons for the decision. The first is that the shift from DS to 3DS means a very different set of sound hardware, and fine-tuning the old sound effects for the new platform is quite difficult.

The second is that Capcom wants the gameplay to match the cut-scenes; the high-quality anime movies are also fully voiced.

Although previous games in the series have had voice snippets, Ace Attorney 5 is the first to embrace full voice acting. It's expected on 3DS in Japan in 2013, and will very likely come west thereafter. Hit the link above for some discussion of the game's story and characters.
