6Waves Lolapps rebrands, restructures as publishing-only

6Waves Lolapps has decided to drop the latter half of its name, having already laid off the staff members of its development division.

Publisher 6Waves merged with Lolapps, the developer behind John Romero's Ravenwood fair branded games, in 2011 and went forward with a double-barrelled name.

Gamasutra reports the company has now restructured to focus solely on publishing; it has announced 32 new publishing deals with social and mobile companies around the world.

As a result, the publisher will now be known as 6Waves.

"Since we are mostly going to be focused on publishing - which is where 6waves comes from - it just seems to make sense," a representative said.

The core development team was laid off earlier this week.

John Romero and Brenda Braithwaite both departed Lolapps for their own start up, Loot Drop, in early 2011, even as Romero's Ravenwood Fair went from strength to strength.
