67% of US Homes have console or PC for gaming
A new survey by the ESA has suggested that over 67 percent of American households own a gaming console or PC.
The company’s definition of a PC, is defined as "PC used to run entertainment software" which of course could mean that the figure is slightly lower, but it’s still an impressive one in any case.
"Computer and video games are now available to consumers on every screen from smart phones to computers to flat screen televisions," ESA president Michael Gallagher said. "This enables millions of Americans enjoy the immersive storytelling, incredible graphics, and compelling plot lines.
"These works of art are a fun and engaging way to bring people together, especially families who are playing video games together now more than ever."
The ESA's report also sets the average gamer as 34 and male, while saying that 40 percent of players are female.
Nintendo's Wii and DS came out as the most popular in the top ten software sales, despite the 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 taking the top spot.
In terms of genre, action titles sold most games at 19.5 percent, followed by sports at 19 percent and shooters at 12 percent.
Finally it seems that parents are also embracing gaming. The report also suggests 64 percent believe games are a positive part of their children’s lives, while 76 per cent have faith in in-game parental controls.
