2K not giving up on Battleborn despite poor performance

Battleborn's under-performance may have become a running industry joke, but 2K has promised continued support for the game.

Eurogamer spoke to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick following the release of 2K's financial report last week, and he admitted that the game's "performance in the market has been below our expectations".

Indeed, the game's peak player counts on PC have been staggeringly low, and the game was recently made extremely cheap during a Humble Bundle sale, despite having only launched in May.

But Zelnick has stated that the publisher remains committed. "We think there remains an opportunity to grow the audience for this unique experience over time," he told Eurogamer. "2K will continue to drive engagement and recurrent consumer spending on the title through add-on content and virtual currency."

"We're still delivering new content to Battleborn. Audiences love Battleborn. We still have virtual currency coming for Battleborn. We're not counting it out for a minute. We're just telling you where we're at now."

The elephant in the room, of course, is free-to-play, which seems to be working very well for Evolve (also published by 2K).

The game is probably too new to transition into a free-to-play model just yet, but it's surely being discussed internally.

Battleborn is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
