Rust EU servers go offline following fire at French data center, data unable to be restored

A fire at a data center in Strasbourg, France caused EU servers to go offline for Rust, which has also resulted in a large amount of data loss.

This is according to Rust developer Facepunch Studios which shared the news on Twitter, stating that data will be unable to be restored (thanks, MassivelyOP).

"25 of our EU servers remain offline due to a fire at OVH Datacenter in the early hours of this morning," reads the announcement. "Unfortunately, the fire destroyed SBG-2 building. We're expecting a large amount of data loss across the affected servers.

"We've confirmed a total loss of the affected EU servers during the OVH data centre fire. We're now exploring replacing the affected servers. Data will be unable to be restored."

The fire also affected MechWarrior Online servers, but Piranha Games said account information is safe as it was located at another data center with backup and redundancy at secondary locations.

"There has been a fire at the EU datacenter that hosts the Game Servers for MWO. We hope everyone at the location is safe and sound," reads the thread. "While we can't tell you when the Dedicated Servers will be back up we can reassure you that your account information safely located at another data center with backup and redundancy at secondary locations.
"We will do our best to keep you up to date on getting the EU servers back up for players in that region. We also appreciate your patience while the situation is assessed."

Data Center Dynamics reports more than 100 firefighters were called to the scene with 44 fire engines. It took six hours to put out the fire. No one was harmed in the blaze.
