Former Overwatch writer working on "multiplayer character action" project at 2K

Follows the Blizzard vet joining the new developer last year.

The ex-lead writer on Overwatch, Michael Chu, is apparently working on a "multiplayer character action game" at 2K's 31st Union studio.

That's going by a Twitter thread from user MauroNL3, who has sifted through the job ads for positions at the developer. It seems that 31st Union is working on a "multiplayer character-action game," with the company saying that applicants should have experience with "action, shooters, or multiplayer titles."

Apparently, the characters in this project are "diverse and innovative" and "will be loved by players for years to come."

Michael Chu left Blizzard in March 2020 after 20 years at the Overwatch maker before joining 31st Union as a narrative director.

"On a personal note, it is towards this goal that I’ve joined a new project as Narrative Director at 31st Union," he wrote in a blog post for GamaSutra when he was hired by 31st Union.

"I could not be more excited about this opportunity, and to collaborate with a group of talented developers who are committed creatively and organizationally to building a studio and creating games that represent these values. Our mission is not only to tell diverse, representative stories, but to create systems that will enable us to authentically and accurately represent underrepresented groups from around the world, and perhaps most importantly, to foster an inclusive environment where these stories are told by a broad and diverse group of creators who speak with their own voices, from their own experiences."

News that 2K was setting up a new studio in Silicon Valley broke in 2019, with Sledgehammer Games and Visceral vet Michael Condrey at the helm. 12 months ago, 2K revealed that this studio was going to be called 31st Union.
