Cyberpunk 2077 dev CD Projekt Red falls victim to cyber attack
CD Projekt Red has suffered a data breach.
This morning, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 developer, CD Projekt Red, revealed that its internal systems have been compromised as a result of a hack.
This was discovered yesterday, according to a note posted to Twitter. CD Projekt Red said the hacker made it out with "certain data", and encrypted some drives on the studio's network, leaving them to discover their note to discuss a ransom.
Though the studio did manage to recover some of the encrypted drives through backups, it will not be able to stop the hacker from selling or leaking the information they obtained. CD Projekt Red has, however, contacted partners who may be affected as a way of trying to lessen the damage.
With that said, no user personal data has been compromised. According to the note left by the hacker, which the studio also posted on Twitter, the dump contains source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent, and "the unreleased version of The Witcher 3." The hacker also claims to have access to accounting, HR, admin and legal documents.
"We will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data," CDPR wrote.
