Returnal, one of the more interesting PS5 exclusives, has an official release date.
At The Game Awards 2020 ceremony, Sony announced that Returnal, Housemarque’s new roguelike shooter, will be available March 19 only on PS5.
Returnal was announced back in June. It is Housemarque’s most ambitious game to date, bringing together elements from the team’s history with arcade-style games and pushing forward in terms of production value and scope. Housemarque is also attempting to tell a story with its world, something the studio rarely does.
Returnal is a third-person shooter with bullet hell mechanics and plenty of particle effects. It’s set on an alien planet where protagonist Selene, a space scout, is trapped in a loop of death and rebirth. With every cycle, the planet shifts, and new combinations of enemies arrive. Every loop also introduces new items you can use in the fight.
Housemarque confirmed that the game makes use of the DualSense controller’s advanced capabilities. The haptic feedback will reflect the environment, and the adaptive triggers will allow you to switch between the two firing modes of every weapon, just by varying how hard you squeeze.
