Here's our first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's new 40-player mode Fireteam

We'll be able to try out Black Ops Cold War's Fireteam mode this weekend.

One of the more interesting new additions in this year's Call of Duty, Black Ops Cold War, is the 40-player mode Fireteam. It offers a unique experience, with a mix of objective play and action not quite seen elsewhere in Call of Duty.

It sounds like Fireteam will launch with various different configurations, or sub-modes, sort of like the limited-time modes in Warzone. The Fireteam variant we'll have access to in the beta, and the only one confirmed so far, is Dirty Bomb. Treyarch showed it off for the first time in this brief trailer, which you can watch below.

In Dirty Bomb, 10 squads of four drop into a large map to collect uranium in order to deposit it into Dirty Bombs scattered around the map. When this happens, the bombs detonate and fill the surrounding area with radiation hazards. There's a big focus on vehicles here, including seemingly attack helicopters players will be able to pilot Battlefield-style.

It's not exactly clear what players need to do to win, but Treyarch notes that each successful detonation will credit the squad responsible with points. There's also another twist that isn't made entirely clear in Treyarch's notes. The developer says the longer a player holds on to uranium, the more radiation will affect them. Things like movement speed, health regeneration and even perks could all be negatively affect.

This is not a one-life mode, as dead players will be able to spawn back on their teammates. Fireteam: Dirty Bomb is the highlight of the this week's second Black Ops Cold War beta, though it's unclear whether the new mode will be available immediately or later on during the weekend.

And don't forget to consult our Black Ops Cold War beta tips if you plan on jumping in. The beta goes live later today for pre-order players on PC and Xbox One, and everyone on PS4.
