Starting beef with a street gang in Cyberpunk 2077 won’t stop you from working for them later in the game. Nor will gang members automatically come gunning for you whenever your paths cross following a ruckus, either.
That’s because the missions in Cyberpunk 2077 have been “hand-tailored” by developer CD Projekt just like they are in monster hit The Witcher 3; so no relying on a seemingly arbitrary system that says because you shot a street thug in your first hour you’re going to be walking around with a target on your back while you’re on a gang’s turf.
“It’s not the case that if you start fighting with a gang you will be unable to do a job for them. Although some of them might remember what you did and they will actually hold a grudge, so to speak. It really depends… most of our content is custom-made, it’s hand-tailored, so it really depends on a specific quest and situation,” said quest designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz in a recent interview with The Gamer.
As with The Witcher 3, you’ll see an immediate response to your choices, but you should also discover certain consequences as a direct result of your actions much later down the line.
“Sometimes it might be the case that you did some choice and it resulted in combat, for example. This is the obvious, immediate consequence. But later on, when you don’t expect it, you might have some long-lasting consequence in some other place entirely somewhere else in the game,” explained Tomaszkiewicz.
“We do this on purpose because we want to kind of have people question their choices all of the time, right? On purpose we never go into obvious systemic solutions that you will see, ‘OK, I did this and so this will happen’. We want it to be difficult to predict. ”
Tomaszkiewicz was speaking follow the latest episode of Night City Wire, which focused on the gangs of Cyberpunk 2077.
