Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 delayed to 2021

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has been pushed back yet again.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 developer Hardsuit Labs and publisher Paradox announced this morning that the game will not be released this year, and is now set for release sometime in 2021.

This is Bloodlines 2's second delay, after the game got pushed back to this year from its original 2019 release target. In an official message on Twitter, the companies explained why releasing the game this year is no longer possible.

"Our goal has always been to deliver the best game possible, to immerse you into a Seattle re-imagined in the World of Darkness, and deliver a worthy successor to the original Bloodlines game," it reads.

"Due to the quality bar and ambitions we have set for ourselves, we have made the difficult decision that we need more time. This means that our goal to release in 2020 is no longer possible. Moving launch is one of the changes we are making to ensure the best player experience possible."

Interestingly, the statement talks about "organisational changes" that will help the game achieve the intended quality standard, and release in 2021. Details about the release timing will be shared in the coming months.

"We understand that this will be a disappointment to many of you, but we also appreciate how our ambition is echoed through many parts of the community. We hope you understand that, while difficult, this is the right call."

Bloodlines 2 was among a number of games whose developers cut ties with Chris Avellone following sexual misconduct allegations against the veteran games writer and narrative designer. At the time, Paradox vowed to remove all of Avellone's contributions from the game, adding that he was only "briefly" involved in the project. It's unclear if that decision has contributed to the delay.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
