Hitman 3 will be “more mature, serious, darker” and probably won’t let you slap a man with a fish

IO Interactive just put out a livestream about Hitman 3, in which they addressed the tone of the game. Expect more Absolution than Blood Money.

Hitman 3 will be the final game in this new trilogy of sandbox assassin sims, wrapping up the overarching story.

If you own the previous two, you can even import all the levels and progression over to play them all in the same place once Hitman 3 releases.

We don’t currently have any new details on how it’ll play, but the developer did speak about tone.

If you look at Hitman’s promotional art, you see Agent 47 on a white background, looking sharp, and without a crinkle in his shirt. The professional.

Hitman 2 took on a different tone, presenting Agent 47 with a pinkish background and arming him with fish and a muffin. IO says this was to show off his playful side. That little scamp. That little murderous scamp.

Hitman 2

Hitman 3’s promotional material is black. That’s because this one is “more mature, serious, darker”, according to community manager Travis Barbour. In other words: you probably can’t slap people with a fish.

Saying that, IO also said that the game will retain the series’ elements of humour. Just expect a darker shade of humour as we close off Agent 47’s story.

Hitman 3 will be developed and self published by IO Interactive. It's coming out in January 2021.
