Destiny 2's new race is once again being teased with cryptic audio

Bungie may be teasing the arrival of Destiny 2's mysterious new race.

On Friday, the official Destiny 2 Twitter posted a cryptic audio clip of what appears to be ambient noises or ship sounds. The background of the video has 91 pillars, combined take the shape of several pyramids.

Longtime Destiny fans will know that the race behind the pyramid ships has long been in the works. The original Destiny 2 campaign ended with a teaser of their arrival, and the story of the Shadowkeep expansion revolves around one of those ships being hidden under the surface of the moon.

Over on Reddit, users have been trying to pick the clip apart to see if they can spot a hidden message. The most noticeable piece of information is the number of pillars: 91. Players believe the number is not an accident, and that it's pointing to the release date of the game's next expansion.

The next Destiny 2 season kicks off June 9. 91 days from that point would be September 8. That day is a Tuesday, and September is when Destiny's various expansions/games have released in the past.

Beyond that, there are several other musings about the nature of the audio. Players believe its sound and length are similar to Saturn Radio Signals, which could indicate that more of these cryptic sounds will show up in the future, leading up to the potential arrival of the new race at the start of the new expansion.

The race, often referred to as The Darkness, showed up in concept art of the original game, but never actually made its way to the game - outside of the brief examples mentioned above.

Whatever it is, we won't have to wait long to find out more. In the most recent Bungie weekly blog, the developer said we'd find out sooner rather than later.
