Animal Crossing: New Horizons works as a low-key horror game, as this fan-made trailer proves

An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has created a horror trailer using nothing but scenes from the game.

Just as Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a source of comfort and joy for some, it's also fuelled the creativity of others.

This latest creation is firmly in the latter part, but it's not like the usual heartwarming or cutesy takes on the game's world. No, this is quite the opposite. YouTube user Evil Imp put together this trailer for a fictional horror film, using New Horizons' characters and setting.

With some clever editing and effective use of sound, Animal Crossing could be an entirely different game. "A young woman escapes to her dream island. But what begins as a perfect paradise quickly spirals into an endless nightmare," the premise reads.

It's a fascinating, if a little terrying transformation. You can watch the trailer in full below. If you're curiruos to see more, Evil Imp also has a behind-the-scenes video, too.
