Animal Crossing: New Horizons Roof Colors - which should you pick and how do you change?

Early on in your island life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can trade in your drafty tent for a house to call your home. But when you’re supposed to be creating your idyllic paradise from scratch it’s important that everything matches the mood.

It’s a little worrying then that you can’t actually preview the roof color of your house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons before you commit. Here’s a quick look at the different choices you can select, along with some guidance on how to change your roof color if you get bored.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Roof Colors

There are 8 different roof colors to choose from in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:

  • Red
  • Pink
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Aqua
  • Blue
  • Purple
  • Black

The description of each one is quite vague too - for instance, the blue I chose turned out to be a lot darker than I thought it would be.

How to change your roof color in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Although it’s not expressed at the time, it is actually possible to change your roof color in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As with everything else though, it takes time and a little bit of money.

To avoid specific spoilers, you need to advance your island until you naturally unlock the Construction Consultation Counter at Residential Services. Here, Tom Nook will give you a list of options.

Ask about your home, then say “I want to customize”. This then takes you to the menu you see above.
