It looks like the next Star Wars console game is called Project Maverick.
This week, PSN releases – a Twitter bot that crawls PlayStation Store database updates – posted the art for an unannounced Star Wars game dubbed Project Maverick.
The game had gained an entry on the European PS Store, specifically. Since revealing this, the bot’s creator, Luciano Ciccariello, shared the game’s content ID – a unique code that, with the right access, can bring up some of the details used when it was entered into the store database.
Gematsu did just that, and came back with a few very interesting takeaways.
First, the code includes the word “beta”, which indicates that this is a testing build, whether that means the public will have access to this beta remains to be seen. The page also confirms some sort of multiplayer in Project Maverick.
As for whether this is a PlayStation VR game, the database makes it clear that it does not have VR support. After all of this was made public, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier confirmed on Twitter that Project Maverick is indeed Motive Studios’ unusual Star Wars project.
Schreier had briefly mentioned that Motive is working on an experimental Star Wars game in his recent report about a cancelled Battlefront spin-off.
While there’s no guarantee every game that makes it onto the PlayStation Store database would be nearing reveal, we’ve seen this exact thing happen with other leaks, including more recently with Resident Evil 3. We’re getting closer to E3 and other major events, so we may hear about this then, if not before.
