Final Fantasy 7 Remake: watch the opening mission in full

This week was supposed to be when we got Final Fantasy 7 Remake. A delay means a few more weeks of waiting - but here's some lovely gameplay to help tide you over.

While we've shown this section of Final Fantasy 7 Remake before, when last summer we uploaded footage of the boss battle against the Scorpion Sentinel boss, that footage had our nattering and chatting away about the game over the top, and we weren't able to release it without that chatter. Today, we can finally upload some all-new footage from a recent build of Final Fantasy 7 Remake that we played at preview - and without commentary. You can now bask in the glory of the music and its sweet seamless transition from exploration to battle, and enjoy the interplay and chatter back and forth between cool-headed mercenary Cloud and quick-tempered ideologue Barret. Anyway, here it is. Watch it.

It's good stuff. We got to play a lot more of FF7 Remake than this, however - and you can see more footage and learn more about our almost four hours playing the game by reading our seven things you need to know about FF7 Remake. If that isn't enough for you, there's also an interview with original FF7 director and remake producer Yoshinori Kitase and remake co-director Naoki Hamaguchi, where the pair confirm a variety of things about the game - including the fact that despite appearing in this game, fan favourite Red XIII won't be a full, playable party member. He'll instead appear as a guest, and fans will have to wait until the next entry in this multi-part remake saga to play directly as him.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases for PS4 on April 10. It's been a long time coming, but other platforms will have a while longer to wait - while no other platforms have been confirmed, we do know that the PlayStation exclusivity lasts exactly one year. Here's hoping it also comes to PC and Xbox One in due course.
