PUBG gets bloody in new update

The last PUBG patch for 2019 is here.

PUBG just received patch 5.3 on the game's live servers on PC. This is one of the game's least interesting updates, as far as new content and features.

The update's biggest addition is a new blood splatter system. The benefit of these new and improved effects is twofold. First, shooting an enemy's head or neck will now produce a distinct effect that's different from the regular body shot effect.

The other advantage to this is that blood will now stick to walls and floors whenever a player gets shot near them, which adds to the grim atmosphere of PUBG. Blood will also be visible on the player's body to indicate which areas have been shot.

Another neat addition in today's patch is the ability to upload your game settings to the cloud. The backup is tied to your account, and can be downloaded any time you use a new PC. Everything except graphics settings and the inventory character render option will carry over.

The recently promised update to the crate and key system also arrives in today's patch. Going forward, you'll no longer receive locked crates when using BP to buy them. As part of this, PUBG Corp. adjusted drop rates for the various existing crates.

Since this is the game's last update this year, the lobby has been given a holiday-themed makeover. 5.3 will land on consoles soon.
