NBA 2K20 spotted downloading an update on Stadia, Google working on a fix
A Google Stadia player spotted something that should not be there while playing NBA 2K20.
NBA 2K20 is one of the launch games available on Google Stadia. One of the service's biggest selling points is that it removes the need for game downloads and patches, since the version on Google's servers is always the most up-to-date.
That's not what Reddit user 121910 saw when they decided to play NBA 2K20 recently, however. The player posted a screenshot of their game showing an update download in progress.
Although there's a chance this could have been a live update that only triggers when a player loads up the game (as opposed to a typical client patch), it appears Google, too, wasn't happy to see it.
"Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This is a bug within the game that's showing an unintended screen," replied a Google community manager.
It looks like whatever's causing this may not be easily fixed. "We're continuing to work diligently with the developer on this matter. We're looking to have another update for you all after the Thanksgiving holiday," the community manager wrote in a follow-up update.
"In the meantime, NBA 2K[20] will play correctly after a brief update. Thanks for your patience!"
This is yet another blemish in Stadia's record for launch. Google has been scrambling to respond to problems such as overheating Chromecasts, and the lack of full-fidelity 4K60 titles on the service.
