PS5 may not have launched yet, but Sony is already trademarking PS6 up to PS10

Sony is looking to the future, as companies often do, by trademarking possible names for its future console generations.

Sony Japan has filed for trademarks for a number of PlayStation console names. The company applied for trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10.

All trademarks, spotted by Gematsu, are for home console devices. This news isn't particularly surprising; companies often move to secure trademark rights well in advance of the product existing.

This does not mean Sony will continue to use the same brand name and just add a number for its future generations, only that it wants to ensure it has the rights to do so whenever it needs them.

As Gematsu notes, PS4 and PS5 brand names were both trademarked in 2006, well before these consoles had existed. For now, we can patiently wait the arrival of of PS5 next holiday season.
