Friday 11th October marks the International Day of the Girl. Declared by the United Nations, it’s a day to observe and increase awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide.
To coincide with this, Steam has launched its Day of the Girl Sale in support of the charity War Child UK and their US counterpart Children in Conflict.
Not only are there savings on games starring some of the strongest women female protagonists in recent years but all participating games have also pledged a portion of their proceeds to these organizations in order to help support children affected by conflict.
Games included in the offer are some of the most acclaimed narrative adventure games, such as Her Story, Gone Home, Tacoma, and this year’s exceptional Heaven’s Vault.
There’s also a little something for RPG fans such as Transistor and Ys Origins. Perhaps even more thematically in line with the organizations the sale is supporting is Bury Me, My Love, which provides a personal story of the Syrian refugee crisis as you follow Nour making her perilous journey to reach Europe.
This isn’t the only sale going on if you’re looking for a strong female protagonist with a bit more action. Over on Green Man Gaming, the games from the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy are heavily discounted, with the 2013 Tomb Raider going for under £2/$3.
From the creators of Skullgirls, action RPG Indivisible also stars a kick-ass heroine and is out this week with a 22% launch discount from Green Man Gaming for £27.40/$31.31
