Minecraft is getting ray tracing support

Minecraft's Super Duper Graphics pack may be no more, but a more impressive upgrade is on its way.

Minecraft is getting real-time ray tracing - or more accurately, path tracing. This is part of a new engine upgrade dubbed Render Dragon, which will be available to players on Windows 10.

Although Render Dragon's suite of upgrades will make it to all Minecraft bedrock versions, ray-tracing is exclusive to PC. The update, due in the coming months, will make several major changes to the game's visuals. Ray tracing support is being used for global illumination, shadows, and reflections.

As you're about to see in the footage and screens below, lighting in the game world is incredibly accurate to real-life, despite Minecraft's blocky design still intact. It's certainly the most impressive Minecraft has ever looked, even taking into account the cancelled Super Duper overhaul.
