Wolfenstein: Youngblood’s ray tracing support won’t be there at launch

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is one of few titles with confirmed support for ray tracing, but the feature sadly won’t make launch.

Though many details about Wolfenstein: Youngblood’s ray tracing implementation remain a mystery, it sounds like many of us might finish the game before ray tracing even arrives.

In an interview with GamesBeat, executive producer Jerk Gustafsson revealed that ray tracing won’t be available at the game’s launch later this week.

“The engineers at Nvidia are still hard at work getting that solution to look as good as possible for the game, and the date is still to be determined,” he said. “But from what we’ve seen so far, it’ll be good.”

That’s certainly going to disappoint many, especially since the list of games that take advantage of ray tracing remains very slim. Many of the games that promise ray tracing support are months away from release, and Youngblood was being eyed by RTX owners as the next big game to make use of the tech.

Seeing as Gustafsson couldn’t provide a target for when the feature will be implemented, it’s likely going to take a bit more time.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is out July 26 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
