Fortnite season 9 ended with a fight between a mech and a giant monster

Fortnite's latest live event, enjoyed by all players who were online at the right time, is the biggest the game has seen yet.

Across the latest season of Fortnite, a sea monster has been roaming around the outskirts of the map, not bothering anyone necessarily, but certainly making its presence known. Meanwhile, a mech was being built inside a volcano elsewhere on the map.

Over the weekend, the season wrapped up in style, with the monster emerging and the mech jumping into battle with it. It was the biggest in-game event Fortnite has seen yet, even if the actual destruction caused by it doesn't seem so extreme.

Here's the full battle, captured by Polygon.

The monster emerged from the ocean and started stomping and smashing, before the mech emerged and started firing missiles at the creature. Was it really so evil as to warrant such an attack? Or was it a misunderstood creature, just looking for some affection in a cold world? We'll never know, because after their brief battle - despite the monster seeming to have the upper hand at one point - it was dead.

The battle ended in the robot stabbing the monster in the skull, doing a floss dance with its one remaining arm, and then flying off into space.

What impact will this have on season 10? We'll find out on August 1 when it officially starts.
