Apex Legends: Respawn is working to curb folks using a keyboard and mouse on consoles

Apex Legends players have found a way to use a keyboard and mouse on console copies of Apex Legends, and Respawn is dedicated to putting a stop to it.

The game, which continues to be wonderful in its second season, will soon lock cheaters into the same games together. But there’s an (arguably) lesser form of cheating that Respawn is looking to deal with, too.

In the most recent update on their subreddit, community manager Jayfresh_Respawn has addressed the issue of players who are using a keyboard and mouse – giving them superior aim – against other players on consoles.

“Our stance on this? The short answer is: we don’t condone it,” the post reads.

“We are investigating ways to detect if players are doing it that we’re testing internally. That’s all we have to say on it for now but we’ll revisit this and talk about progress with detection and how we’ll address players that are using it in the near future.”

As Polygon points out, Microsoft, in particular, has done a lot to extend keyboard and mouse compatibility on Xbox One, but it’s an opt-in system – developers are able to prevent players from using them to preserve balance in online games. This is the case with Apex Legends, and players are only able to use them by making use of exploits.

It’s not, perhaps, the most severe form of cheating, but it’s understandable that Respawn would want to keep the field level.

Apex Legends is available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
