PUBG massive 4.1 update brings Erangel remaster, car radios, healing tweaks, and plenty of nerfs/buffs

Another big PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds update is here.

This week's update is now available on live servers on PC, following a week of testing. The developer is doing away with the old naming convention and will instead derive patch numbers from the season they're attached to. This being the game's first update in Season 4, it's called 4.1 and it's 10GB.

The most important addition in 4.1 is, of course, the Erangel revamp. PUBG's first map has seen significant visual upgrades to many of its iconic locations, buildings and even terrain, not to mention a few updates to the gameplay with the arrival of new interiors and new pieces of cover for some of the most open areas. The map also has a bit of a story to it now.

Those who played the new Erangel during its first test server run will be happy to know that PUBG Corp. has reduced grass density and lowered overall brightness, two standout complaints many had.

With the new season comes a new survivor pass called Aftermath. It kicked off today and will be active until October 15. Aftermath features 100 rewards (including the first vehicle skin for UAZ) to unlock and plenty of missions, including new co-op missions which also track the entire community's progress.

Gameplay improvements are aplenty in 4.1, with a long list of balance tweaks to ARs (nerfs) and SMGs (buffs). The update also introduces the first balance pass for vehicles, which touches everything from handling to speed and health.

Vehicles now have radios drivers can turn on/off, which will play some random music. The BRDM-2 armoured vehicle now allows the driver to lock it to prevent non-teammates from entering.

Outside of vehicles, 4.1 makes a significant change to healing and boosting. Players are now able to boost and heal while on the move, but doing so will limit movement to walking speeds until the healing animation is done. There's another neat tweak made to bandages that allows the game to continue using them until your health reaches 75%. This is only done when you start healing using a bandage.

Today's update brings a new solution to the problem of framerate affecting weapon rate-of-fire, something the team previously addressed with an interim fix.
