Nintendo to release new Switch model with a longer battery life

A Switch model with a longer battery life will start hitting retail in August.

Nintendo will release a new Switch model with a longer battery life starting next month.

The current battery life on Nintendo Switch is 6.5 hours, whereas the upgraded battery will last around 9 hours.

On the specs sheet, Nintendo compared the battery usage when playing a heavier game such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Current Switch batteries will provide around 3 hours of play time in Breath of the Wild, while the new battery will provide 5.5 hours of playtime.

This new sku will cost the same as current Switch consoles on the market. It will arrive first in Japan in early August.

North American customers can pick it up in mid-August and it will arrive in Europe this September.
