Same-sex relationships confirmed for Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Fire Emblem: Three Houses will feature same-sex relationships, Nintendo of America revealed.

According to USGamer, Nintendo confirmed to the outlet that the upcoming tactics game will feature same-sex romance options, validating a leak from June. The leak purported that if you play a female protagonist, you can romance female characters Edelgard, Dorothea, Rhea, Mercedes, and "adult" Sothis. On the other hand, if you play as a male protagonist, the leak alleges that you can only romance one male character named Lindhardt.

Assuming the leak is true, fans clamoring for LGBT+ representation will surely be disappointed by this meager representation. The Fire Emblem: Fates series, for perspective, only featured one male and one female character for players to pursue a same-sex marriage with, so if the leak is true, it suggests that Nintendo hasn't made much progress toward a future where LGBT+ players are given equal in-game romance options as their heterosexual counterparts.

It's important to note, again, that this information comes from a leak, and that it's possible that more same-sex characters will be romance-able when the game launches on July 26 for Nintendo Switch. In other news, Three Houses could be the longest game in the series, clocking in at 80 hours. We got to preview the game, and learned that you can skip most of the RPG aspects if you just want to play Fire Emblem: Three Houses as a tactics game.
