The Outer Worlds' story has two major paths which decide some part of the ending

The story of The Outer Worlds will follow one of two directions, depending on a choice you make early on.

The Outer Worlds has different mutations for its endings, but two major beats. All of them are choice-driven, which is what's going to make the ending different for almost every player.

Co-director Leonard Boyarsky told VGC that you'll be given a choice to side with either Phineas or The Board, and each sends you down a different path. The diversions within are similar - for obvious reasons - but the big picture will shift.

"So there are quite a few different endings. I haven’t added up all the different permutations, but there are quite a lot of variations," said Boyarsky.

At the end of the game, you'll get to see a tally of the different choices you made along the way and how they affected the world, including all the smaller decisions in handling different quests.

"At the end of the game there are slides to show how you affected different things. There are two basic paths at the end: whether you sided with Phineas or The Board. That’s kind of the first beat of the end: how that played out and what that choice was," he revealed.

"After that you get a whole series of slides that talk about the results of your actions and the consequences of the choices you made throughout the whole game. They talk about the different people that you encountered, the different areas that you entered, how you solved certain quests and what that means for the future of the colony."

The Outer Worlds is out October 25 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
