For the first time ever, console and PC PUBG are starting to diverge

PUBG Corp. is beginning to take its popular battle royale shooter down a bit of a different path on consoles.

This week, PUBG players on PS4 and Xbox One received a new update. The game's console versions have traditionally lagged behind PC, getting major features and additions weeks after they're made available on PC.

While this is still the case, developer PUBG Corp. is, for the first time, making changes unique to the console version. The new patch includes a new feature: the ability for attachments and scopes to get automatically equipped to the weapons you're using.

This may seem like a small change, but it is significant in a tactical shooter that doesn't have many of the quality-of-life additions introduced by other battle royale shooters, or indeed the more popular shooters in general.

There are three settings to tweak, giving players plenty of ways to control how it works. First, you can set all attachments to auto-equip, which automatically attaches things like extended magazines, muzzle breaks and so on to your equipped weapon. If the attachment doesn't go on your primary, it'll be equipped to the secondary, and then sidearm.

If none of your currently used weapons can take the attachment, it'll simply end up in your inventory. There's another separate setting for scopes, which lets players pick whether high-powered scopes can replace low-powered ones or if they want it to close-range optics.

Finally, the new feature also makes it easier to replace weapons, because you can transfer all attachments to your newly equipped gun with a button press.

The patch also added a new control scheme that favours shooting, with dedicated lean button mapped to RB/R1 and LB/L1. Check out the full change log here for PS4, and through this link for Xbox One.
