Here's a possible hint at a new Ape Escape to celebrate the series' anniversary

It's been twenty years since the apes first escaped - and speculation is rife that another game might be in the works.

A new Twitter account, piposaru20th (Pipo Saru is the series' Japanese name) - which doesn't have an official verification, but which is followed by original series developer SIE Japan Studio (good spot, Eurogamer) - has dropped a hint.

The below tweet has started up a whole heap of speculation.

The tweet translates to: "Piposar (20 years since then. I've been running around, but i wonder if there's anyone chasing me anymore...)"

What could this actually mean? It's been a while since Sony last hinted at a new Ape Escape game, all the way back in 2016:

(PlayStation Japan has, by the way, also retweeted this recent Ape Escape tweet).

The last Ape Escape game was Ape Escape Move for the PS3, which was not particularly well-liked. Hopefully, if a new game is in the works, it'll be a return to the series' PS One glory days - or even, perhaps, a remake, ala Medievil.

Of course, for now, all of this is speculation - if Sony actually wants to announce an Ape Escape game in the new future we'll keep you updated on whatever they show off.
