They Are Billions is getting a new story-driven campaign

Steampunk swarmer They Are Billions is about to go imperial in a new campaign

The New Empire follows the exploits of a (big surprise) fledgeling empire, 200 years in the future. You'll be trekking across a world map, reclaiming lands from the undead and salvaging tech from the old world.

From the looks of things in the below trailer, The New Empire will be fully voice-acted and feature branching paths across its story. There's even a peek at some good old Warcraft 3-style dungeon missions with small clusters of heroes.

Numantian stressed that The New Empire will be completely free, and support all 12 languages served by They Are Billions.

Two new survival maps arrive with the update, serving both beginners and experienced doomsday preppers. The Deep Forest is the new entry-point to the game, giving a more chilled gateway.

On the other side of the spectrum, The Caustic Lands is a balls-hard challenge to stress out experienced players, with a Doom Colony that can cover up to a third of the map. Numantian is also teasing new dangers and difficulty tweaks to existing maps.

The New Empire arrives as a free update on June 18.
