Apex Legends may have single-handedly saved EA’s fourth quarter, and the publisher wants to continue growing it.
During its earnings report for the fourth quarter of FY2019, EA was unsurprisingly excited to share the many triumphs of Apex Legends. During a call to investors, EA leadership shared how the publisher will build up on this momentum.
The first step in doing so is bringing the game to other platforms. More specifically, EA said it’s working on creating versions for mobile devices, and that it’s currently in “advanced negotiations” to publish it in China. In Korea, the game will be self-published by EA on Origin.
Though Apex Legends is butting heads with Fortnite, and PUBG on PC and consoles, it’s missing out on lots of revenue from mobile players. Both Fortnite, and PUBG have very profitable mobile versions.
Elsewhere in the call, EA revealed Apex Legends is its fastest-growing new game ever. The company also said that 30% of Apex players “are new to EA.” Presumably, EA is referring to new Origin accounts with no prior history with the company’s games.
Finally, EA reiterated that the first details about the game’s second season of content will be shared at E3.
