Gearbox boss says Steam review bombing makes him "happy" about Borderlands 3 Epic Store deal
Gearbox CEO, Randy Pitchford, called review-bombing a "misuse" of Steam's review system, and criticised Valve for not addressing the issue.
Pitchford's comments were made on Twitter, in relation to the Borderlands series getting review-bombed on Steam following the announcement of a six-month timed exclusivity on the Epic Games Store.
"Ironically, that this misuse is possible and that Steam has no interest in correcting this misuse makes me kind of happy about 2k’s decision and makes me want to reconsider Gearbox Publishing’s current posture on the platform," he tweeted (via IGN).
Valve recently introduced off-topic reviews on Steam, which aims to combat review bombing to a degree. If there's a huge influx of negative reviews, they won't be included in the review score, but will still be visible.
In response to another Twitter user explaining that the review-bombing wouldn't have happened "if there wasn't an exclusivity deal," Pitchford called out their "victim blaming bullshit," and quickly shut them down.
