Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is an old-school shooter from Quake scene vets

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a new, old-school shooter built on the Quake engine.

3D Realms has today revealed its new project: Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. Developed alongside new studio Killpixel, Wrath is a classic shooter built on the original Quake engine.

True to 3D Realms' earlier, classic creations, Wrath is a dark fantasy shooter with plenty of ancient ruins, temples, and sinister forests to explore. Emphasising what matters from the off, 3D Realms promises nine weapons, each with an alternate fire mode.

The game also features ten artefacts for added power. Wrath: Aeon of Ruin's level design is inspired by 90s classics, meaning you'll be left to your own devices to explore large levels as you search for objects of power, not to mention keys that'll unlock previously inaccessible levels.

Of course, you can't have an old-school shooter without a killer soundtrack. For this, 3D Realms enlisted the help of Quake Champions composer Andrew Hulshult, and Cyberpunk 2077 senior audio engineer Bjorn Jacobsen.

One look at the trailer below should really tell you everything you need to know. Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is due out this summer on PC, and early next year on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
