The Division 2 early season pass description touts 7-day early access to post-launch content

In the absence of a clear breakdown, The Division 2 players are looking for any information they can get regarding the game’s mysterious season pass.

The Division 2 season pass is in a bit of a special situation. Because developer Massive proudly revealed at E3 last year that all content coming to the game in Year 1 will be free for all layers, the existence of a season pass confuses many.

The pass itself was revealed shortly after E3, but Ubisoft never officially detailed what it entails. Though it’s not yet available for purchase separately, considering the price of the game’s Gold Edition, it’s likely going to cost $30-40. This price isn’t outrageous, but since the publisher is happy to give all content away for free – why buy it in the first place?

Ubisoft has yet to answer this question definitively, but players recently noticed a small update to The Division 2’s page on the Ubisoft Store. Towards the bottom of the page, there is a single line that describes the season pass.

“Year 1 Pass grants 7-day early access to all Year 1 Episodes, instant access to all Year 1 Specializations as they release, eight Classified Assignments: The fall of DC, along with exclusive cosmetics and additional in game activities,” it reads.

Offering early access to season pass holders makes sense, and it’s a model used in other games that offer some of its post-launch content for free. We obviously still don’t know what Classified Assignments are, or how post-launch Specializations will be added.

Bizarrely, the season pass description only shows up when selecting the game’s Ultimate Edition, despite the pass being included in all editions outside of standard. This is likely because details have yet to be finalised.

There’s certainly a lot to unpack there, which Ubisoft will hopefully be able to do – officially – in the near future. Until then, there’s an open beta for The Division 2 this weekend.
