Tencent in talks to bring Apex Legends to China - report
According to reports, Tencent is currently in talks with EA to bring the latter's battle royale hit, Apex Legends, to China.
The Chinese conglomerate, according to a South China Morning Post report, is interested in officially bringing Apex Legends into the country's massive market.
The company is currently in talks with EA to reach a deal, an anonymous source familiar with the matter told the site. For those unfamiliar, Western media companies are required to partner with local companies for their products to be legally made available in the country.
Tencent, of course, already holds exclusive license to distribute PUBG in China. The same is true for Fortnite, not to mention the company owns 40% of developer Epic.
Now that the Chinese State Administration of Press and Publications is once again reviewing new game applications, it would make sense for both Tencent, and EA to strike while the iron is hot.
More broadly, Apex Legends may have an easier time getting the necessary approvals compared to PUBG, considering Apex's themes of cooperation and the game's reliance on team abilities.
