Black Ops 4 Blackout gets new weapon camo unlock mechanic on PS4, competitive mode comes to multiplayer

Treyarch has rolled out new updates today for all Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players.

As is always the case, PS4 players get to try out new content a week early. Today's update introduced a unique new mechanic to weapon camo unlocks in Blackout.

Up until now, players needed to fulfil weapon camo unlock requirements in multiplayer, and though you were able to use these camos in Blackout, there was no way for players who only play Blackout to make a similar progress.

The new system is designed around everything you do in a Blackout match, from exploration, looting, survival time and more - not just your headshot prowess. This is done by collecting Paint Cans during the match, which you can bank to unlock weapon camos. Paint Cans are found all over the map, just like regular loot.

To simplify the process, Treyarch made it so you don't lose your collection upon death. Today's update also makes Down But Not Out the Blackout featured playlist on PC, and Xbox One.

Black Ops 4's League Play debuts today with the Pro Series Moshpit playlist on all platforms. This style of competitive play comes with restrictions on weapons, Specialists and more. Of course, as is common with competitive modes, you're only limited to certain maps and modes.

Finally, Zombies players now have new mastery camos to look forward to. Those being gold, diamond, and dark matter. Zombies weapons now also support mastercrafts, reactive camos, and after weeks of requests, black market camos. Zombies-specific challenges have been issued in the armory, which you'll need to unlock these camos.
