New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe out today, adds playable Toadette and Nabbit

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe releases for Switch today.

Nintendo has released New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe today for Switch, and it includes New Super Luigi U.

Like the Wii U version before it, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe features the ability to play with up to four others. Each player can take on the role of specific character and co-op through 164 levels.

Unlike the Wii U version, there aren't two versions of Toad available. The original featured yellow and blue toad, which means you could have two toads on your multiplayer team. Blue Toad is technically still available to play, but only as a blue skin for yellow Toad.

To play as blue Toad, you will need to press and hold the L Button while you have Toad highlighted.

This means there can no longer be two Toads on one team, as noted by Polygon.

Instead, players participating in multiplayer will have to choose between Mario, Luigi, Toad, or newcomers Toadette or Nabbit. The latter two are toted by Nintendo as perfect characters for "younger or less-experienced players." This is because Toadette and Nabbit offer extra assistance during play.

When Toadette picks up a Super Crown, she turns into Peachette and can double jump, float slowly during freefall and boost back up when she falls in a pit. When playing as Nabbit (the antagonist awarded by Toad in the original), you won’t be hurt by enemies and can earn extra 1UPs at the end of stages.

Nabbit became a playable character in New Super Luigi U, which was released as DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U in 2013, before becoming a standalone title.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will run you $59.99.
