Stand around watching NPCs engage in back-breaking labour to make the game look pretty for you.

The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is a rich and varied one, full of NPCs who bunk off work to go to the pub or have a cheeky smoke when they think no one's looking. It's a miracle they get anything done. But they do - eventually - as evidenced in this YouTube video from DefendTheHouse.

The game's NPCs have their own routines, and some of that involves rolling up their sleeves and helping to tame the wilderness by building towns and railroads. The video below shows the evolution of the world as you progress through the game, from the buildings in Valentine, Pastor's Ridge, Saint Denis, and Blackwater, to the felled trees courtesy of the Appleseed Timber Co., and the sprawling track of the Central Union Railroad.

More importantly, it shows Arthur Morgan's beard and hair growing wild and free - something you too can play with in the game's character customisation.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is full of all sorts of fun things to do when you need to take a break from stalking NPCs. Like getting sozzled, which we thought was handled with much dignity and aplomb.

If ferreting out Easter eggs is your bag, we've got you covered. There's also some hidden commands in the game you might not be aware of that will make your life a hell of a lot easier.

And if you're just after the most money, the best horse, and perfect pelts, we have guides for those too.

For those of you toying with the idea of playing through the game as an utter bastard, but lacking the testicular fortitude to follow through, we went on a rampage so you don't have to. Enjoy.
