Getting to grips with the first full-on Pokemon game for Nintendo Switch? Here’s some pointers to get you off to a flying start.
Pokemon Let’s Go has finally arrived, and it’s a mash-up of mobile phenomenon Pokemon Go and the more traditional Pokemon games you might be used to. It combines gameplay from both, which means it has its own special quirks.
Here, our resident Pokemon trainer Alex has compiled a list of 7 essential beginners tips that he wishes he knew before playing Pokemon Let’s Go.
We’ve summarised them briefly below, but you should watch the full video above if you want to become a master.
- Catch Pokemon and pass them to Professor Oak for Candy
- You’re going to need a lot of Pokeballs
- Talk to everyone!
- Catch ’em as quickly as you can
- Unlock the Judge function
- Original Pokemon are available in the game
- There are version exclusive Pokemon
Why? Because Candy boosts you Pokemon in battle. And some rewards are locked behind the amount of Pokemon you catch, not just the type of Pokemon you catch.
Make these your priority item because you’re going to use more than in any other Pokemon game.
Don’t ignore anyone in Pokemon Let’s Go. They provide bonuses, trades, exclusive Pokemon that can’t be caught, free items and other stuff.
Pokemon won’t hang around forever. Make a quick decision and throw that ball if you don’t want them to escape.
This gives you a rough idea of how useful a Pokemon will be in battle before you try to catch it. Pokemon are ranked Okay, Good and Amazing. Obviously you want the ones ranked as Amazing on your team.
They may be out in the world to capture, they may be available to trade. Here’s a guide to catching some familiar faces like Bulbasaur and Squirtle.
You’ll need to trade with the opposite version of the game you have, as usual. You can also transfer your captures from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Let’s Go.
