Monster Hunter: World is getting a hefty trial version on console from December 12

If you’ve somehow missed out on the best co-op game of this year, Monster Hunter: World is getting a big trial version in a couple of days.

The trial version contains the base game without any expansion content and allows you to experience hunts up to the 3-star level. In other words, there’s loads of content on offer and you can try your hand with all the weapons and against a good range of beasties.

You can even do this all online and get a taste of Monster Hunter as it’s meant to be: with a group of four players twatting a giant creature. Players can even join your hunts from the full version of the game.

The best thing about this trial? Should you choose to buy the game once you’ve beaten all the beasts into submission, all your progress carries across to the full-fat version. There's no mention of a trial version for PC, but console players can have a go from December 12.

It’s a great time to jump in as well, with the new Monster Hunter: World expansion - Iceborne - coming in Fall 2019.

There’s also a crossover event coming next year that sees players step into the monster-slaying boots of The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia.
