Monster Hunter World Iceborne expansion brings new zone, new and returning monsters

Capcom has just announced the first big expansion for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

Monster Hunter World's Icborne is due for release in fall 2019, and it's exactly what fans have been asking for. First, the expansion will expand the game's world with a new snow environment, new quests, and a full new story set after the events of the main game.

This also means we'll be going up against new and returning monsters, with today's teaser hinting at Nargacuga. During the presentation, Capcom revealed that Iceborne will be introducing a new monster rank to the game, but didn't specifically say whether that'll be G Rank.

Veteran Monster Hunter players will be familiar with this ultra-high tier of difficultly. G Rank is a level above High Rank that yields unique rewards and features bigger, more challenging versions of existing monsters. G Rank monsters also use new moves, and mixups, not to mention hit harder compared to their Low, and High Rank counterparts.

You may remember players asking Capcom all year to bring G Rank to Monster Hunter World, and though today's reveal doesn't mention G Rank by name, this is likely what the developer has planned.

The expansion requires the base game to play, and Capcom confirmed that the PC version will sadly not launch day-and-date with consoles. More details about Iceborne will be revealed in the spring, and PC version owners can look forward to similar announcements in the future.

The news was part of a 15-minute pre-recorded presentation where producer Ryozo Tsujimoto brought the goods, among which was of course the reveal of The Witcher collaboration.

Iceborne is due for release in fall 2019 on PS4, and Xbox One, with a PC release to follow.
