Battlefield 5 reviews round-up, all the scores

Following a delay, DICE's next big Battlefield is finally here.

Battlefield 5 represents a return to DICE's WW2 roots, for the first time in a mainline entry since Battlefield 1942. The game brings a great deal of changes to the core formula.

This is still a class-based shooter, but the new Combat Roles offer greater diversity and utility. Destruction returns, better than ever with more accurately modelled effects such as debris shooting outwards when explosives detonate indoors.

The biggest new feature, however, is the attrition system. This manifests in different ways such as the lack of automatic health regen, the limitations on player and vehicle ammo, and more. Gunplay, too, has been touched up, doing away with Battlefield 1's dreaded random deviation and bringing it back to the more skill-based, high-recoil action.

At launch, Battlefield 5 multiplayer will include eight maps, and the single-player War Stories mode with four episodes. The Combined Arms co-op mode, an extra War Stories chapter, the Firestorm battle roayle mode, and more maps are all coming in various waves post launch.

Though Battlefield 5 does have a single-player component, it's predominantly a multiplayer game. As such, don't expect too many scores today. Most reviews - including ours - will likely be based on early impressions, with full reviews to follow later after everyone has played the game in a live environment.

The few scores below will be out of ten, except where noted.

Battlefield 5's official release date is November 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but owners of the Deluxe Edition will be able to play November 15. Battlefield 5's EA/Origin Access trial starts this Friday, November 9 on PC, and Xbox One, though Premier members will be able to play past the ten hour cap.

Depending on your chosen version, you may already be able to pre-load Battlefield 5 on your chosen platform.
