How to change your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

Some of you are still struggling to changing your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, so we've made this handy guide to help you out. While your starter steed is pretty good, you may find wild horses or purchase later horses that are much better suited to your needs as a cowboy in the wild west.

Whether you're looking for a faster horse or a tough stallion, there are a few ways of ditching your starter horse in RDR2, besides accidentally nudging it off a cliff. Without further ado, here's how to change horse in Red Dead Redemption 2.

How to change horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

Changing your horse is actually as simple as removing your saddle in Red Dead Redemption 2. Stand next to your horse and lock on to it. Choose the option to remove your saddle, then walk up to your new horse, lock on again, and place your saddle on the new horse.

This is handy for a quick fix if your horse dies on your travels - just shoot a rider from their horse, calm it, then move your saddle over. This will mark the new stallion as your main horse, as well as transferring all your equipment over.

You can also store or sell any horses you aren't currently riding at a stable. And if you want to buy a new horse instead of seeking one out, you can purchase horses from stables, too. Upon purchase, it'll become your main horse.

You should also keep an eye out for wild horses, which are usually miles faster than yours. To see a horse's stats, lock onto it and hold R1 to 'study' it. Then, you can determine whether the horse is worth chasing down, calming, and taking.
