Stan Lee dies at 95
Legendary comic book writer, editor, publisher, and former Marvel president Stan Lee has passed away at 95.
TMZ reports that Stan Lee died on Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. The cause of death is not yet known, but his health had been declining over the last few years.
"My father loved all of his fans. He was the greatest, most decent man," his daughter told the website.
Marvel Comics and The Walt Disney Company released a statement in the wake of the news, asking fans to join them in remembering "the creator, voice and champion of Marvel."
"Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created. A super hero in his own right to Marvel fans around the world, Stan had the power to inspire, to entertain, and to connect. The scale of his imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart," said Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company.
DC Comics also released a statement addressing the writer's death.
"Without Stan Lee’s fertile and creative mind, endless energy and work ethic, comic books would have been completely different from what we know and enjoy today,” said DC Publisher Dan DiDio. “He helped to create worlds that were both fantastic and relatable at the same time, allowing more people to embrace superhero stories. We’ll be forever richer having him with us.”
Lee worked with DC on Just Imagine, a comic book in which he re-imagined some of the publisher's most iconic heroes.
"No one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee," tweeted Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. "Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all. Our thoughts are with his daughter, his family, and his millions of fans."
Stan Lee's wife, Joan, passed away last year. He's survived by his daughter Joan Celia "J. C." Lee.
