YouTube has removed a number of videos showing a suffragette character in Red Dead Redemption 2 being beaten and killed.

Users have uploaded videos of main character Arthur Morgan punching, killing and hogtying a suffragette character in-game. At least eight videos have been removed for violating terms of service.

“YouTube’s Community Guidelines prohibit among other things, gratuitous violence, nudity, dangerous and illegal activities, and hate speech,” a YouTube spokesperson told the BBC.

“Creative formats such as video games can be challenging to assess, but when content crosses the line and is flagged to our attention, we take action as necessary.”

Videos showing similar acts inflicted on the NPC can still be found on YouTube with a simple search. Comments underneath the videos are predictably awful.

During the story missions of Red Dead Redemption 2, protagonist Arthur Morgan helps suffragettes demonstrate in the town of Rhodes. Later, suffragettes can be found in the main city, Saint Denis, and interacted with just like any other NPCs in the game.

Deleted videos include one titled “Red Dead Redemption 2 – Beating up annoying feminist” which had well over 1.5 million views. The video was recorded by YouTube creator Shirrako, who had also uploaded videos of the suffragette being fed to animals and dropped down a mineshaft. Current videos on Shirrako’s channel include “Red Dead Redemption 2 – Deporting A Mexican”.

Update: YouTube has reinstated the videos with warnings that some content may be inappropriate.
