To make solving the Strange Statues puzzle in Red Dead Redemption 2 a little easier, it's best to head to Window Rock to begin with. This location is Northwest of Fort Wallace and beneath the Granite Pass. Make your way up the mountain pass there and you should find some cave paintings marked ‘Strange Statues’.

Allow Arthur to note them down in his book and take a first-person screenshot for your own records. You don't need to have this drawing in journal, but it will help you solve the Strange Statues puzzle.

RDR2 Strange Statues location

To find the Strange Statues puzzle in Red Dead Redemption 2, you will need to head to a cave that is East of Donner Falls. An easy way to spot it is to open up the game's map, as the caves are found just underneath the ‘I’ in ‘AMBARINO’.

There you will find a narrow crevice in the granite, enterable from the West, that leads to a cave. It's easy to miss so keep a lookout for a small opening. Inside, you will find another point of interest for Arthur to mark down, also titled ‘Strange Statues’.

RDR2 Strange Statues puzzle solution

After entering the cave that's East of Donner Falls, you'll come across the statue room for the Strange Statues puzzle. To solve the Red Dead Redemption 2 puzzle, you will need to press the buttons on the statues in the correct order.

There are seven statues in this room, and each of them have different numbers of fingers. To start with, count the fingers on each statue. Initially, it may look like there are two statues with four fingers. However, one of these statues has a missing arm, which you can find on the floor in the cave. When you add those fingers together, that statue has seven fingers in total. The clue for this is on the painting you discovered earlier.

To solve the Strange Statues puzzle, you need to press the buttons on the base of the statues which have 2 fingers, 3 fingers, 5 fingers and 7 fingers.

If you happen to make a mistake at any point, you can pop around to the back of a statue and press the button again to reset it.

Once you've pressed the statue buttons in the right order, the statue in the middle of the room should open up, offering you three gold bars for your trouble.

If you're looking to earn more gold bars, you should follow the Jack Hall Treasure Gang map, or the big Poisonous Trail Treasure Hunt. There's also the Le Tresor Des Morts treasure map for those who ordered the Special or Ultimate editions of the game.
