Red Dead Redemption 2’s release date is fast approaching, and the latest titbit serves to illustrate just how much Rockstar have upped the ante.
Update: VG247 believes the original source for this story is mistaken, either via misunderstanding or a mistranslation. Having played the game for a number of hours, we believe these type of on-the-fly dialogue changes (most recently seen in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey) won’t be possible in Red Dead Redemption 2. This is due to how the game doesn’t contain canned dialogue outside of the cutscenes and NPCs simply react to context.
Original story: As we barrel towards Red Dead Redemption 2’s release date and more details drop, we’re getting more and more hyped about the level of detail that exists in the world, and the latest revelation is the icing on the cake.
According to Red Dead News, if you turn the mini-map off, NPCs will step in to help you navigate your way across the map, referring to routes and landmarks in your conversations with them.
But if you have the mini-map on, the dialogue will be bereft of these useful tips.

It reads (via Google Translate and Redditor Inspyro04): “on the back of those maps we read the location where we can possibly challenge them to a duel. We bombarded this conversation because a vague question mark on the minimap sent us in the direction of the cafe (although it did not indicate the precise location of the man at the counter). If we had opted, however, to do it with visual instructions without a minimap, then we would only have been able to discover these missions by chance. Without minimap you will also have to search your way through the game world based on benchmarks in the area. The dialogues even adapt to that. So we got the exact whereabouts of one of the gunsmen in the bar and a bar fight had ended.”
Rockstar is pulling out all the stops with the long-awaited sequel, with around 200 different animal species, all of which have unique behaviours.
There’s x-ray weapon targeting and some impressive technological advances have been made in the area of horse gonads, which I think we’re all excited about.
