Arekkz tries out Soulcalibur 6’s character creator, and takes his fighter for a spin in the Libra of Souls campaign.
Many fighting games include story campaigns, but Soulcalibur intends to ship with two. The second mode, Libra of Souls, lets players design a custom fighter who must face both established fighters and other community-designed heroes. It’s a promising feature, but how does it actually play in practice?
Thankfully, Arekkz had a chance to try out Libra of Souls, and captured gameplay footage you can see for yourself.
Soulcalibur 6’s character creator is exciting enough, filled with a metric ton of customization options. You can pick between different species, body types, and fighting styles – and that’s before picking weapons and armor. There are even custom hairstyles if you so choose. While this video focuses on the story mode, new characters can be also used in online matches.
Custom characters must explore the game map and collect Soul Edge shards to advance the Libra of Souls storyline. At various points, you’ll be offered choices that influence the story, and direct you towards a good or evil ending. Arekkz also notes there are some choices that only become available once you’ve aligned yourself in a certain direction, likely encouraging replays to see different story directions.
All told, this looks like a great use of Soulcalibur 6’s character creator, and it’ll be interesting to see what combinations players create. The game launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 19, 2018.
